Local Area

The Bishop's Lodge is ideally placed on the fringes of Douglas, within walking distance of all amenities, attractions and transport links.

For quick and easy essentials, the Wessex petrol station is on Alexander Drive, 5 minutes walk from the Lodge, stocking the usual essentials plus, of course, fuel.

A larger range of amenities is situated close by on Woodbourne Road, a short walk (10 minutes) or drive away, where you will find a Co-op, Robinson's grocery store, Lloyds pharmacy, and several take away food shops including the excellent Terrace Chippy.  Windsor Road (just off Woodbourne Road) also has Hemensley's pharmacy, the Convenience Store and a Post Office.  The Woodbourne pub is the closest pub to the Lodge, less than 10 minutes walk, and serves local as well as guest ales.

The Lodge is also within easy access of Douglas town centre, which comprises all the usual high street shops, and a large range of restaurants, wine bars and pubs.  There is a Tesco supermarket next to the train station, about 5 minutes drive from the Lodge.

There is a bus stop five minutes walk away on Peel Road, which gives you access to the major bus routes around the Island as well as buses into and out of Douglas.  Please check our Getting Around page for more details on local transport options.

Getting Here

Detailed directions to the Lodge will be provided once you book.  Options for getting to the Isle of Man:

By Ferry:

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company offers services from Liverpool, Heysham, Dublin and Belfast.  Winter Liverpool services change to Birkenhead.  As the frequency and duration of crossings on some routes varies we would advise that you do a live search for crossings to Isle of Man to get the most up to date information.  Click on the Isle of Man Steam Packet logo below to search for sailing information.

By Air:

The Isle of Man's Ronaldsway airport is served predominantly by four airlines (Aer Lingus, British Airways, EasyJet and Flybe) offering direct scheduled services from 10 airports in the UK and Ireland.  Most of these routes operate year-round with frequent flights from London (Heathrow, City and Gatwick), Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Dublin, giving the opportunity for transfers from European and worldwide air services.

Links from UK regional airports ensure direct air travel from most parts of Great Britain including London Luton and Newcastle.  A route from Glasgow provides regular links with Scotland, and frequent flights from Belfast City ensure easy accessibility from Northern Ireland.

The following reviews from some of our previous guests will give you an idea of what to expect during your stay... (please note we've had to edit out guest names due to data protection laws but these are all genuine reviews!):

This is a lovely, cozy apartment, with a well equipped kitchen and a welcoming plate of biscuits and milk in the fridge. Very comfy sofa and bed and plenty of coat hangers and drawer space. It was also handy having the freezer in the garage so I could freeze the ice packs for my coolbag. I will definitely stay here again if it's free when I'm next over on the island.

Guest,

Thoroughly enjoyed stay - thank you very much! We will come again!

What a brilliant place! Secure parking, plenty of space inside a swell as being sparkling clean. Will definitely be returning to the island and will be trying my best to return to Bishop’s Lodge.

Lovely comfortable accommodation in a great location, bus stops close and access to all the IOM attractions using the go explore card was a breeze. Transport on the Isle is especially good so no car needed.

Bishop's Lodge is A1. It is central, clean, cosy and has everything you need in a lovely place to stay. The bed, power shower, and thoughtful touches like books, dvds and tea coffee milk and cookies where very much appreciated. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely place and very helpful and friendly host. Easily walkable to some good restaurants and very accessible to some great places to visit. Really enjoyed our stay.

Guest,

We loved every minute of our trip. It was the cleanest apartment we have ever stayed in. Felt very private and very safe. Gaby was very thoughtful and helped accommodation our 8 week old daughters needs. Really enjoyed our stay and felt completely relaxed. Great little touches on arrival.

Guest,

Great spot for a break. Very welcoming host and a very clean, modern, private apartment with a home from home feel. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Guest,

Lovely, clean and spacious apartment. Gaby was kind enough to give me some details of local places for food and dinner, which was nice. Plus supplied home made biscuits for arrival too. Wifi was fine too

Guest,

Perfect little home from home for a single business traveller or holidaying couple. All the amenities you could want in a great little lodge, quiet and comfortable.

Guest,

Within a five-ten minute drive we were away from the ferry and inside this lovely property. Clean, tidy and very welcoming with a jug of milk and banana cake on arrival for the weary travellers. The property itself was warm, cosy and spacious which was very pleasing. With our own remote for the gates, we were able to come and go as we pleased. Brilliant hosts, we would highly recommend. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Guest,

Fantastic stay at Gaby's place. Perfect set up for a visit to the Isle of Man with all the amenities you need. Felt very much at home in a relaxed and relatively easy to find location. Hosts were very accommodating and thoughtful.

Guest,

Bishop's lodge was the perfect place to use as a base for exploring the island. It is close enough to Douglas to walk and close to a bus stop to explore further afield. Gaby was a great host and answered every communication I made very promptly. The lodge had everything you could possibly need for your stay.

Guest,

The flat was a wonderful oasis of calm during my stay on the Isle of Man. The flat was exactly as described, had everything you could need and more and Gaby and Nick couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful! Hugely appreciated. It was lovely and peaceful and quiet but only a short (20 min) walk from the sea front which was perfect. Don't forget to take your directions with you to find it the first time! I will be back next time...
