Local Area

A range of amenities is situated within easy walking distance including a variety of restaurants and cafes, a Co-op (open every day except Christmas Day from 8am - 10pm) selling all essential groceries, and two pubs, The Albert being the closest above the inner harbour, and The Shore along Gansey beachfront.  There is also a pharmacy, a hairdresser, and a newsagents with a post office counter inside.

There is a larger supermarket called Shoprite in Port Erin, and in Douglas there is a Tesco supermarket near the railway station.

Chapel Bay Lodge is easily accessed by public transport with regular buses servicing all parts of the Island.  The closest bus stop is at the end of the road, on Station Road, 5 minutes walk from the apartment.  Check our Getting Around page for local transport options.

The Isle of Man Steam Railway offers a charming and alternative method of transport and is an excellent means of viewing the Island’s beautiful scenery.  Trains regularly depart from Port Erin Railway Station taking you to Castletown and Douglas, the capital of the Island.  There is a stop at Port St Mary, which you can walk to from Chapel Bay Lodge in about 10 minutes, it’s about a quarter of a mile or half a kilometre.

Getting Here

Detailed directions to the Lodge will be provided once you book.  Options for getting to the Isle of Man:

By Ferry:

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company offers services from Liverpool, Heysham, Dublin and Belfast.  Winter Liverpool services change to Birkenhead.  As the frequency and duration of crossings on some routes varies we would advise that you do a live search for crossings to Isle of Man to get the most up to date information.  Click on the Isle of Man Steam Packet logo below to search for sailing information.

By Air:

The Isle of Man's Ronaldsway airport is served predominantly by four airlines (Aer Lingus, British Airways, EasyJet and Flybe) offering direct scheduled services from 10 airports in the UK and Ireland.  Most of these routes operate year-round with frequent flights from London (Heathrow, City and Gatwick), Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Dublin, giving the opportunity for transfers from European and worldwide air services.

Links from UK regional airports ensure direct air travel from most parts of Great Britain including London Luton and Newcastle. A route from Glasgow provides regular links with Scotland, and frequent flights from Belfast City ensure easy accessibility from Northern Ireland.

Guestbook

Here are some reviews from previous guests which will give you an idea of what to expect during your stay:

A great place to stay while in Port St. Mary. Very clean, comfortable, and convenient with all the amenities we needed. Gaby was a great host - always prompt to reply and very helpful. Will definitely request staying here on our next trip to the IOM.

Guest,

Was a beautiful space with loads of funky ideas.

Guest,

Just returned from a week at Chapel Bay lodge. It's a lovely place to stay. The Lodge is spacious, comfortable and well-equipped and makes for a relaxed holiday. It's full of character with ingenious use of upcycled materials, all of which gives it a seaside holiday vibe, yet it feels homely too. We'd love to return.

Guest,

This is such a lovely location and a beautiful home. The photos don't quite indicate how spacious it really is, especially the front room and bedroom. Brilliant design for keeping sound and light out of the bedroom even if one person is up and about while the other is sleeping. Great spot to tour the southern island from.

Guest,

Relaxed from the get go of this beautifully presented exceptionally clean and comfortable home.

Guest,

The apartment was really homely with lovely decor and very clean. There was a cute welcome tray on arrival and the biscuits were a lovely added touch. There were lots of thoughtful extras like deckchairs that we made good use of as we even had some sunshine!! Super comfy bed and a nice big bath to relax in. Port St Mary was a really quaint town and you can do a great coastal walk to St Erin. It was a really lovely, quiet, relaxing break.

Guest,

The location is fantastic, and Gaby did a great job bringing the beach theme into the property. It was cozy and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming back.

Guest,

Well worth it , love the decor

Guest,

Nice place, super clean and uncluttered, perfect for escaping the rat race for a while. Gaby was always at hand to answer our calls, overall a very good stay.

Guest,

Delightful place to stay right on the front at Port St. Mary, overlooking the beach and the harbour, on the ground floor of a Victorian terrace house on the promenade (palm trees, sort of Manx Torquay). Easy to get to from Douglas and a good jumping off point for the rest of the island. You can do the walk round the southern headland (The Chasms and Spanish Head) following the Raad ny Foillan round-island route straight from your front door. About 7 miles round to Port Erin and another mile or a bus ride back across the neck of the peninsula. All mod cons in the flat and Gaby has decorated it in a delightful style.

Guest,

Had a great time, Gaby's place is lovely and well kept. There's a fish shop, grocery, and pharmacy right up the street, and it's easy to catch the bus or hike on the coastal footpath from the apartment. Recommended.

Guest,

Great place that is well thought out, very new and very clean. It’s also in a beautiful location for walks. Would definitely recommended it.

Guest,

A beautiful, fun, bright and welcoming place with a stunning location. The decor is fun and uplifting, the flat is bright, airy and comfortable with a huge super king-sized bed. The location overlooking the lovely harbour at Port St Mary is beautiful and Gaby was a joy to deal with. Just perfect!

Guest,

A lovely apartment in a lovely spot. With an eye for great design and minimalist style, this place is immediately bright and calming. Parking was easy, instructions clear and the welcome tray was a bonus. Gaby was easy to contact and quick to answer. I would love to stay again sometime.

Guest,

Fantastic apartment with lots of space, comfy beds and places to sit. Great kitchen. Perfect location to explore the south of Isle of Man. Convenient to bus. Nice places to eat. Gaby was wonderful, highly recommend!

Guest,

A fab apartment, in a great location, everything was perfect. Would definitely stay again xx

Guest,

It is a wonderful flat, beautifully decorated, cosy and comfy and a fabulous location! We were lucky with the weather and each morning we enjoyed our coffee out on the benches across the very quiet road looking out over the water- just brilliant :)

Guest,

Gaby is the perfect host, there when you need her and not if you don't! The location is perfect along with the apartment, decorated to a high standard and "sea themed" throughout. This is our third visit to the island and we will be booking again.

Guest,

A delightful place to stay overlooking the harbour. You will be fascinated by the interior decoration of this well equipped self catering apartment

Guest,

Great space, loved the seaside theme. Great location close to great walks, restaurants, shops and transport. Very peaceful. Very cosy. Highly recommend it.

Guest,

The apartment was excellent, had everything we needed, very spacious, and great location for us. Gaby could not have been a better host, very thoughtful and accommodating. Would highly recommend.

Guest,

Awesomeness personified
